Do a Good Deed and Get a Great Read

Some animal rescue groups publish magazines with stories and pictures which appeal to animal lovers. They earn money from advertisements in their magazines and from donations. If you make a donation you can get a great read from Best Friends and from The Humane Society of the United States.

The Humane Society publishes three magazines: All Animals, Animal Sheltering, and Kind News for Kids. All animals not only features pet dogs, birds and cats, but also deals with issues affecting farm animals and exotic animals. Political battles which affect animals also receive coverage. An article in the 2016 - 2017 winter edition is a feature article on the battle between private vets and nonprofit clinics and its effect on pets who need medical care.

Animal Sheltering covers those working to save more animals' lives at the shelter to those helping prevent pets from being there in the first place. Learn about the people and organizations that are making a difference. Kind News reveals the beauty and wonder of the creatures who share our world while also exploring the challenges they face. Teaching kindness and respect for animals and their natural habitats, this 8-page magazine for K-6 students features profiles of amazing kids, articles about rescued animals and species in trouble, pet care tips and how-to pieces about backyard wildlife.

Best Friends, the USA's largest non-kill animal sanctuary, also makes their magazine available to subscribers. You will find gorgeous pictures, tips and advice for those who have pets, and find stories about the rescue of homeless animals. A $25 donation will get you a subscription.
